Thatching

Thatching, also known as dethatching, is a process where we remove some of the layer of grass that has build up, over time, on top of the soil.

Why should I thatch my lawn?

The build up of the grass will create a layer above the soil which will prevent the soil from breathing properly, making it harder for the grass to grow as it should. Proper air flow to your grass and the root system is vital to a healthy thicker lawn. One thing to keep in mind, is that you will never be able to get all of the thatch removed.

What kind of equipment do you use?

Our mower has an attachment that consists of spring loaded tines that will loosen the layer of thatch on our first pass and the following passes will rake up the thatch as the mower sucks the dead grass up, making the clean up much easier.

If your lawn needs a more aggressive approach we do have another machine. Again, these situations that are few and far between and more stressful than the dethatcher you see in the picture.
